Based on the WaterSens solution using Opsens Solutions’ fiber-optic pressure sensors to measure water levels, the sensors, specially designed and adapted for fuel tanks, provide highly accurate, reliable and safe measurement. With no drift over time and no need for maintenance or calibration, the sensors are truly Plug & Forget.
The measurement principle is simple: the liquid level is calculated from the hydrostatic pressure, which corresponds to the thrust exerted by the height of the liquid due to the force of gravity. This pressure is determined using a unique, patented technology based on Fabry-Pérot optical interferometry. This technology, known as WLPI (White Light Polarization Interferometry), is based on phase modulation of light, the most sensitive method for fiber optic measurement.
Fully dielectric, this technology makes the sensors intrinsically safe and allows them to be deployed in explosive environments (ATEX).
This measurement solution is so reliable that it will be used in the next generation of aircraft to measure critical parameters such as fuel level.
